The Marathons

Singapore Marathon

The second leg of The Greatest Race on Earth in Singapore presents runners with a blend of dynamic city skylines and scenic coastline vistas, with some special sites of interest dotted along the course. Both buildings and trees offer some respite from the intense heat and humidity that is the main challenge to the runners.

The early start time will help protect runners and crowds alike from the overbearing heat of the day. Runners can consider special training to acclimatize themselves to the conditions but invariably the intense heat conditions are very demanding of all competitors. The first third of the race should be the most comfortable, before the temperatures rise. Runners must however be wise and reserve their efforts for later, as there is far more to be gained by a late push.

Most runners will tire and slow down towards the end, so those who decelerate least will give themselves a significant advantage. Just as with the thin air in Nairobi, so the hot air in Singapore results in competitors tiring faster than they would under normal conditions. Expecting this and carefully rationing effort with a well-planned strategy is the key to optimum performance.

With enthusiastic support from local community groups and businesses that line the route, a highly charged atmosphere is maintained throughout during the second leg of GROE.
